Laser Tattoo Removal

Q. How does the Cos-Med Q-Switched Yag Laser remove tattoos?
A. This laser removes tattoos with specialized light which is absorbed by the ink found in the tattoo. The rapid absorption of the laser energy causes the tattoo ink to break into very small particles whih are then removed by the body’s natural filtering system.

Q. Is Laser treatment painful?
A. The impact of the laser has been compared to the snap of a small rubberband to the skin. The pain you feel also depends on where the tattoo is located. The majority of patients are able to tolerate this level of discomfort. However, we have Lidocaine injections available upon request.

Q. How many treatments will it take to remove a tattoo?
A. The amount of treatments depends on a number of factors including: The amount of ink used, the type of ink used, the depth of the ink into the skin. Generally most patients require between 6-12 treatments for adequate results.

Q. How much does it cost?
A. The price to remove a tattoo depends on the size of the tattoo. On average, most treatments are priced between $75 – $150 per session. However, some treatments start as low as $50.00. Also, we do not require that you buy a package of treatments. Please feel free to call us for a FREE consultation (972-323-2020) where we can sit down and answer all your questions.

Q. Will this treatment remove colored tattoos?
A. The inks that respond best are Black, Dark Blue, and Red. It also responds well to Orange and Purple colored inks. Green and yellow inks are the most difficult to remove, and generally take additional treatments to produce significant fading.

Q. Will the tattoo completely disappear?
A. In most cases, yes, more than 95% fading of the tattoo can be achieved. However, you must remember that there are many types of inks used today (non of which are FDA approved). Not knowing the type of ink, the depth of the tattoo, the different techniques used when applied, makes it impossible to predict the degree of removal.

Q. How do I care for the area after a laser treatment?
A. Post-treatment basicially comes down to keeping the treated area clean! You may experience some scabbing, you need to make sure and not scratch or pick at the treatment area.

Q. How does Laser Toenail Fungus Treatment work?
A. The laser toenail fungus treatment targets the fungal infection using the CosMed NdYAG Laser. The laser will target the infection beneath the toenail area called the toenail matrix. The Laser treatment takes about 10-15 minutes per treatment and the patient can experience a warm sensation. Treatments are spaced approximately 30 days apart and require between 2-4 treatments. The laser treatment targets only the infected area(s) and leaves the nail and nail-bed unharmed. Creams and other oral treatments have been between 10-50% effective. Laser treatment of toenail fungus has been shown to be effective between 70-80%.

Q. Are there restrictions on Laser Toenail Fungus Treatment?

Q. How to avoid Toenail Fungus?
A. Treating the toenail fungus does not mean you will not get it again. Fungus can enter the nail through an injury or crack in the nail or a cut around the cuticle. Avoid wet, moist environments, such as public showers, locker rooms, public pool areas and other areas where your feet are exposed to unsanitary conditions. What you will need to do is practice good foot hygiene. Make sure at home that you wash and sanitize your sheets and bedding often. Check your showers and bath areas (including the bath mat). These can be areas that can cause reinfection.

Be cautious when you get pedicures. You should avoid allowing the trimming of the cuticles too short. This provides an area for fungus to once again infect.

Remember to check your shoes. Fungus can be thriving in those old sneakers. Make sure to always keep your shoes dry and sanitized frequently.

Spider Vein Treatment

Q. What are spider veins?
A. Spider veins are small but unsightly clusters of tiny capillaries that appear as blue, red, or purple veins. They most commonly appear on the surface of the thighs, calves and ankles, but may also appear on the face. It has been estimated that at least 1/3 of adult females are troubled by this common condition. The exact cause in unknown, however we do know that they can be the result of chronic photo damage; as the skin becomes thinner, the vessels become more visible. We also know that spider veins are related to abnormal blood flow in those affected veins. Sitting, or standing for long periods of time, sustaining injuries in the affected area, or gaining weight can also be contributing factors. Spider veins on the face are related to extreme sun exposure.

Q. How are spider veins treated?
A. At Laser Centers of North Dallas, we use the high-tech Q-Switch Nd: YAG laser to help erase and treat those unwanted spider veins. The laser’s energy destroys the spider veins, which the body then naturally absorbs in 5-10 days. No anesthesia is required, but patients may feel a slight stinging or burning sensation. The laser targets the pigment within the vein of the leg or face. Normally, the patient will see results within 1-3 treatments or as many as 5 or 6, depending on the severity of spider veins. Treatments are generally scheduled 4-6 weeks apart.

Q. How long does the procedure take?
A. The amount of time varies, depending on the size of the area being treated. Other factors include the severity of the problem. A normal appointment can take anywhere from a half hour to an hour. Your initial appointment will generally takes an additional 15 to fill out paperwork and to answer any questions that you may have.

Q. What can I expect after the spider vein treatment?
A. Some will experience a slight redness or swelling, but that will generally disappear within a few days and can be treated with ice packs. It may take upwards of two weeks for the treated area to heal. Patients may resume normal daily activities immediately, but we suggest that you avoid strenuous aerobic exercise for 4-7 days following treatment.
